The bushes were rather large and marshy in this area right near the river. Trees towered ahead on the mountain side and birds flew all around making chirping noises and calling to mates. The fish swam by quickly in the small stream as is terrified of being caught by a hunting cat and the soft babble of the water rushing against the rocks was pleasing to hear. A soft splash came from somewhere ahead making two brown and black striped ears swivel in that direction. Fernpool sat quietly in the bushes as if waiting for something. She let her tail sway back and forth lazily as she adjusted her position and put her head down on her front paws. What could possibly be taking so long? She thought laughing to herself and rolling over. By now someone has always interrupted me. Her ears were still pointed in the direction from which the splash had been heard but she was also paying attention to the other small noises of the forest around her. Including, soft shuffles from mice and rabbits scurrying around in the undergrowth, the rocks being ever smoothed by the rushing water and the wind rustling each leaf of the tree overhead.
Apart from all these calming noises, the medicine cat was listening intently for any sound of paws padding towards her. There were none and she lay happily relaxed in a small glade basking in the sun. She wasn’t particularly expecting anyone but her clan mates seemed to appear everywhere especially when she was trying to relax. As medicine cat her duty was to tend to any injuries that may have occurred, or to go any see if there is even a possibility of injury anywhere no matter how exhausted she is.
Smiling to herself as the sun came out from behind a cloud, she let her tail sway back and forth again as the warmth of a few rays reached her face. Fernpool had just closed her eyes when she heard the noise of approaching paws coming in her direction. With a sigh, she sat up on her hunches and looked expectantly through the ferns towards the sound.

The undergrowth was thick and alive with life. One could hear the rustle of a squirrel in one direction and a mouse in another. The sounds were an endless temptation to the young warrior as he carried on. He stopped twice to make off after a sound and after he had killed a mouse and a thrush he buries their remains where he'd remember and continued on.
Brackenfur wandered aimlessly among the undergrowth, padding lightly torwards the river. The rushing sound of the water as it hurried downstream. Why it rushed Brackenfur had always wondered, just another mystery of nature that the cat would never figure out. Like why the moon would yawn full only once a month, and even the very nature of their being was a curious thing to ponder over on sunny days. Just like today.
He could see the rocks that lined the river through the plants, The sun was beginning to shine and the cat purred at the idea of sitting down for awhile maybe for an afternoon nap. He was brushing through the last of the grass to pad up to the rocks when he noticed the scent of another cat. He looked to his right and there was Fernpool, the clans medicine cat.
"Well hello Fernpool, great day for a nap isn't it?" Brackenfur asked pleasantly. He turned his head slightly to the side and walked over to the rock setting down with his paws under his chest. The warmth radiated from the stone to his fur and he lazily plopped to his side.

She was looking for Brackenfur. Well, maybe not Brackenfur specifically. Really she was looking for any warrior she could find. Why? Well, she was bored, that's why. She'd never admit it aloud, but if she showed up and gazed up at a warrior with her big, brown eyes...well, they'd get the message, right?
A familiar scent clung to the ferns and grass that grew along the river, and the young apprentice followed the path at a steady trot. The day was absolutely lovely, with the sun shining through the leaves and creating dapples of shadow and light on the forest floor. The gentle rushing of the river cascaded around her, causing Mothpaw to flick her tail happily. What a lovely day! What a perfect day to....
The sound of voices stopped the young apprentice in her tracks, and she padded forward slowly until she came to the banks of the river. The water looked cool and refreshing, and she didn't discard the idea of taking a swim...but not yet. Following the source of the sound, Mothpaw came upon her mentor, Brackenfur, and the young medicine cat. A small white paw raised as she began to pad forward...and then she stopped, slipping back into the shadows of a large fern. She didn't want to disturb them, and...well, they'd notice or or they wouldn't.
((sorry, bad, I'm distracted)

Fernpool looked up to see the young tom pad into her glade and smiled.
“It is…” she purred sleepily in reply and slid onto her stomach. She was prepared in case there was an emergency back at camp but the day was so nice and warm that Fernpool wasn’t quite compelled to move. Continuing to swish her tail and looked up and breathed in the scent of her fellow clan mate along with another scent. Turning towards the bushes behind her tail she smiled again and spotted a flash of fur hiding amoung the ferns. “Why hello Mothpaw.” She called friendlily. The young apprentice was incredibly shy and Fernpool couldn’t help but love her.

Keeping her eyes down, Mothpaw hoped she wouldn't give herself away. She felt like she was doing a pretty good job at hiding...her two Clanmates didn't seem to notice her. And then..."Why hello Mothpaw." The young apprentice glanced up, blushing beneath her fur as Fernpool's gaze fell on her. Well, so maybe she wasn't so great at hiding. Oh well. This was what she has wanted, right?
Straightening slowly, the light gray tabby padded slowly out to meet the two, wondering what Brackenfur would think. Would he mind that she was spying on them? Glancing up at the two cats, she mewed, "Hello. I was...lonely at camp. I wanted to get out."

At the mention of his apprentice Brackenfurs ears flicked forward. "So that is you Mothpaw, I knew I had scented you as the wind blew." He commented while licking the underside of his left paw. He inspected his claws they seemed a bit dull and as he waited for his apprentice to join them he sharpened his claws lazily by scraping them against the rock. A quick yawn and a lip lick later he sat up with his tail curled around his paws. He had been wondering where his apprentice had wandered off too, he was eager to practicing fighting with the apprentice. With the imminent threat of another clans attack one was never too prepared. Yet the sun seemed to call the cats to relax, to sleep even if only a little....
"Bored at camp? Well you are welcome to join us here for a nap" Brackenfur said his tail flicking lazily up and down.

A nap? Mothpaw glanced up at the sky. It was sunhigh now, the hottest part of the day, and the sun did feel very nice....and it was a rare newleaf day when a thunderstorm wasn't blocking out the sky. Who knew when the next sunny day would come? But...a nap? Maybe this was a warrior thing...taking naps. Or a medicine cat thing. But...she didn't really want to take a nap. "I was thinking...about swimming?" she mewed, her statement becoming a question towards the end. She knew it could be dangerous to swim in the river in newleaf, what with the snowmelt and the ever-present possibility of mudslides. But still....

Brackenfur snorted in amusement at the look of horror on Mothpaws face. Ha! surely an apprentice wouldn't want to take a nap! he thought to himself. "I was only joking Mothpaw" Brackenfur chuckled. When she mentioned swimming his ears pricked with interest. "Well it is a good day for a swim, but I wouldn't particularly like to be the one to tell the clan of your death, mudslides and all.." He said softly denying the image of his apprentice struggling in the dangerous water out of his mind. "Perhaps wading by the shore would be safe enough? Or i could take you out for practice or a hunt. Its up to you you know I am game for anything on a day like this" Brackenfur said nodding approvingly at his apprentice.

Fernpool watched the small exchange between apprentice and mentor and was reminded of her sister and her apprentice. It was quite amusing to watch them interact for there was always that huge gap between ages and interests. Sitting up fully, Fernpool stood and padded over to sit beside the other two cats. She licked the top of Mothpaw’s head and smiled. “A swim would be nice but how about you do wade. Brackenfur is right for the waters are very high at this time and we wouldn’t want to lose you.”
Waiting to her the reply, Fernpool let her tail shift from side to side and brush both Mothpaw and Brackenfur. The small apprentice seemed quite worried and this made Fernpool feel slightly motherly towards the young she-cat.

Ah, she didn't really like their decision...but who could blame them? She'd been expecting them to say something about the mudslides. "Okay," she sighed, raising her big brown eyes to the two older cats and hoping they might give a little bit. She could swim some, right? "Can we go now?" She glanced toward the lovely river, eyes brightening at the very idea of leaping right into the cool water, then looked back at the others. Would they be coming with her? She didn't really want to swim alone.

“Of course.” Fernpool replied standing once more. “Race you to the edge!” the young medicine cat called preparing to run. Her glade was so comfortable and basking in the sun with the company of a fellow clan mate was tempting but Fernpool wanted Mothpaw to be happy so she complied. Her claws out and fur flat, Fernpool nodded towards Brackenfur urging him to join them. “Alright, on the count of three. One, two…THREE!”

Brackenfur didn't enjoy swimming but it did sound good today. On the count he launched himself at the river reaching the edge just behind his apprentice. He dipped a paw into the water and shivered it wasnt too cold in fact it seemed just the right temperature. he was about to pad right in when he got a devious idea he snuck up behind Mothpaw ready to push her in if he got the chance. His eyes twinkled with the idea of this joking plan.

Fernpool reached the edge at the same time as Brackenfur both losing to the small apprentice. She laughed her cat-like laugh as Bracken tried to sneak up behind Mothpaw when suddenly an idea occurred to her as well. Fernpool waited until Brackenfur was about to push Mothpaw in and then rushed up behind him pushing both apprentice and warrior into the water with a loud splash.

Coaxed out of her shyness by the idea of a nice swim, Mothpaw sprinted toward the river, somehow managing to reach it just before the other two. She came to a stop at the edge of the water, taking a deep breath and preparing to go in. Pawsteps sounded behind her and she spun around to face Brackenfur. "Caught you!" she mewed, swatting at her mentor with sheathed claws. "You were going to push--aiiii!" her sentence cut off as Fernpool shoved both her and Brackenfur into the water. Mewling in surprise, she hit the water with a splash and clawed her way to the surface. Pawing at the ground, she found that she was in too deep to touch, so she gasped and swam into the current...and gained no ground. Narrowing her eyes, she struck out with her young legs and forced her way closer to the other cats, until she could finally touch the river floor with the tips of her paws.
They're going to get it, she thought, watching Brackenfur and Fernpool mishcievously. She waited until they were standing before she bounded toward them, sending water flying everywhere as she raced at them. Once she was a few mouselengths away, she bunched her muscles and sprang forward, aiming for Brackenfur's back and hoping to hop from him and land on Fernpool.

Fernpool tumbled into the water behind her clan mates mewling in laughter. She landed on her paws nicely though she was soaked more then had been intended. Sitting, she looked over at Brackenfur and laughed again; it rung cheerfully around in the clearing and ran overtop of the water pounding downstream where the current lulled. Looking to see where Mothpaw had gone, she saw the little apprentice being tossed lightly by the current and Fernpool instantly became concerned. “Mothpaw?” she called standing and taking a few steps closer to where the kitten was swaying. She needn’t have worried though for seconds later Mothpaw was on her paws and looking around somewhat dazed. Laughing again, Fernpool sat in the shallow water turning to see how Brackenfur would react.
