Brackenfur had finished rolling in the water when he saw in his peripherals that Mothpaw had launched herself at him With a silent chuckle he remained where he was for the last second before ducking out of the way, which would send the cat splashing into the water in front of him. He laughed eying Fernpool seeing what mischief she was plotting as he shook his body to get as dry as he could before launching back into the water jumping lightly over his apprentice and jumping aiming to land right next to Fernpool sending a small wave of water over the she-cat.

"Eeek!" the young gray apprentice yowled as her mentor sprang out of the way. She had been so close! She was still yowling as she landed with a splash in the water, her mouth filling with the cool liquid as she scrambled to get her head above the water. Gasping and coughing, she waded over to a barely-submerged, flat river rock, clawing her way up it and lying down. The cool current flowed around her belly, and she smirked at Brackenfur and Fernpool (although her big, brown eyes showed only innocence). She was in the best spot to enjoy the cool water!
((I think it should start raining and there should be a mudslide...just to get the "mud and rockslides are ruining our forests!" thing going a bit ^.^ What do you guys think?))

((Sure)) Just as Brackenfur had been ready to attack the water after a small fish he had seen swimming by the sky seemed to break, thunder rumbled overhead and the storm clouds seemed to be rolling in dangerously fast. "Quick! out of the water" Brackenfur knew almost too well the dangers of being new a tree or a river in a thunderstorm. He ran to the middle of the feild. He motioned with his tail for the other two cats to join him. Crouching as close to the ground as he could he waited for the other cats to join him. This seemed to be a flash storm and should be over in a few minutes. Till then they could only pray to Starclan.

Fernpool let out quite a yowl as Brackenfur splashed her with a tremendous amount of water. The big tom weighed a bit and displaced a lot of water droplets showering the small medicine cat. Fernpool growled gently and playfully and leaned back on her hunches to bat at Brackenfur’s ear with her paw. At the sound of a rolling thunder cloud, Fernpool placed both paws back down lightly and looked at the sky worriedly.
Brackenfur raced out of the water and called for both she-cats to follow. Fernpool quickly turned tail as well and splashed over to Mothpaw making sure the apprentice got out safely. Once out of the water, Fernpool shook herself out a little and noticed a small overhang under which they could hide for the moment as the rain began to pour. They needed to decide whether or not to return to camp or possibly wait it out. “Let’s go under there!” Fernpool mewled softly motioning to the overhang with her paw.

All at once, a huge crack of thunder tore through the quiet day, and Mothpaw sprang straight into the air in alarm, her fur standing straight on end. Eyes wide, she stared up at the sky as huge, dark thunderclouds came rolling in--a swift, warm breeze blew against her wet fur and she shivered, looking around for the others. Brackenfur had taken cover in a field...and Mothpaw was springing after him as Fernpool pointed out an area beneath an overhanging rock. Lightning streaked across the sky, and another thnderclap roared in her ears, causing Mothpaw spring as fast as a jackrabbit to take shelter under the rock, just as the clouds broke upon and warm newleaf rain came pouring from the sky. "Brackenfur? Fernpool?" she mewled uneasily, glancing around for the others. She'd never experienced a thunderstorm outside the safety of the camp.

Fernpool looked around and saw her clan mates take off in two different directions. She knew Brackenfur could care for himself but not Mothpaw. For this reason she sprang in a circle and raced to hide under the rock beside the apprentice. Hoping Brackenfur was safe, Fernpool tried to see outside but the rain was too thick making her feel blinded. Turning to comfort the young apprentice, Fernpool smiled. “It’s alright Mothpaw.” She cooed softly.

Brackenfur at once knew that the other clan-mates hadn't followed him. He turned around trying to scent them but the smell of rain overwhelmed him. Looking around he caught sight of the rocky overhang and knew that the cats had hid there. Did they not know that in a lightening storm that was one of the most dangerous places they could possibly take shelter... for electricity traveled through the rock.
He leapt up from his spot and sprung towards the rocky overhang and when he got there sure enough he found the two cats. He was soaked through and found himself shivering as he came into the dry air. "There you guys are" He mewed. He gave his apprentice a lick of the forehead and pressed his forehead to Fernpools for a slight second for it was not proper show too much affection to the medicine cat.
"This is a dangerous place to hide but there is nowhere to go from now." Brackenfur judged the lightening, it wasnt to near. The danger of lightening striking the rock was very small but still.. "Make sure you arent touching the rock. And let me lay on the outside of you guys... just to be sure" He mewled cautiously stretching himself out as if to guard the cats.

[ooc: rock doesn’t conduct electricity! Hehe, sorry Brackenfur. ] Fernpool smiled as she saw Brackenfur retreat from her quickly. The male warriors always worried about showing to much affection and she wanted to discourage such thinking. Being medicine cat ment she could have no mates not that she couldn’t have any friends. Purring to herself, Fernpool licked Brackenfur’s flank before turning away and beginning to groom herself. All was well now that the three of them were together. They just had to wait it out.

Unnerved by the clear worry in Brackenfur's actions, Mothpaw huddled close to Fernpool's side, staying several mouselengths away from the actual rock. At least they were out of the rain...although the river was filling up quickly, and a bit of water was starting to trickle over to them and over their paws. "You think the camp is okay?" she mewed, glancing over at the others worriedly. Then again, there was no reason that a cave behind a waterfall wouldn't be safe, since it was unlikely the pool at the bottom of the waterfall would ever overflow that high. What a disaster this turned out to be. So much for the nice day, she thought, praying to StarClan that this would be over soon." [/size]

((for the sake of this thread it does!! haha)) The rain seemed to be letting up slowly. "Of course camp will be okay Mothpaw." He mewled encouragingly. He couldn't help but feel a little proud of his apprentice. Many cats her age would be worrying about their own tail. He felt a lick on his flank and stiffened a little before realizing it had just been Fernpool. of course it was Ferrnpool who else would it have been you mouse brained cat! he thought to himself before relaxing. "Looks like the storm is about over." The last thunder hadn't been for a couple of moments and it seemed unlikely more was coming. As the last raindrops landed on the humid ground he poked his head out of the rock. Padding over to the rivers edge he was alarmed how much higher it was than a mere few minutes ago. He looked up the river and down the river. Then he saw was was causing the water to rise. A few feet downriver he saw that a mudslide had created somewhat of a dam. The spot they had been wading before was now dark and churning in the middle of the river. He shivered to think what would have happened to the cats if they had stayed in the river.

After a few minutes, Brackenfur left the shelter of the rock. Eyes wide, Mothpaw slowly followed him, her ears flattened and tail down in worry. She stuck close to her mentor's side, and after a moment of looking around she saw a huge bank of mud in the river, right where they had been swimming. It was stopping the river from flowing very well, and a pool was already gathering as the river overflowed. What were they going to do about this? A little bit of water was still trickling through the mud, but it wasn't much...it wouldn't do that for very long. But how could they move mud?
"What...do we do?" she asked uncertainly, glancing back towards Fernpool to see if the medicine cat had come out yet. "Is this bad?"

Fernpool smiled to herself and gave Mothpaw a lick on the head as the apprentice snuggled closer to her. Brackenfur seemed to glance back as well right after she licked his flank and Fernpool felt a strong sense of family. This was how it was supposed to be in a clan between all the cats. She was glad her clan was fairly close and liked being able to reply on her fellow clan mates. The thunder overhead seemed to be easing up and eventually the rain itself stopped completely. Fernpool cautiously stepped out from under the rock behind Mothpaw and Brackenfur to survey their surroundings.
The water from the rain had made the river rise immensely and a huge block of mud had formed in one part blocking all of the water. This would need to be dealt with immediately before the river started to overflow on their territory. Hearing Mothpaw’s worries made Fernpool feel motherly again. She smiled kindly at the young apprentice and replied gently. “Not to worry, Mothpaw. Everything will be cleared up soon.” Then padding to Brackenfur’s side, she breathed her own worries softly into his ear. “What are we going to do about the mudslide? Should we ask Goldenfeather and alert the rest of the clan?”

Brackenfur had been worrying the exact same things that were voiced to him in a matter of minutes. "Of course it will be okay Mothpaw, Us warriors will have this cleared up in no time." He spoke the words but had doubts at the same time in his mind. Would this be cleared up in no time? The water was threatening to flood the land that they called home. That could kill off the prey and potentially start a famine in the clan.
He breathed to himself and eased his thoughts away. He moved over to the mudslide and began to work his way on the mud nosing it with his nose to see if it would simply be carried off in time with the rivers current but the mud was compacted it would be hard to move that without enough pressure. He was about to move further out to see if anything could be done when he slipped in the mud and almost fell off to the other side of the riverbed which was now more of a creek with rocks jutting out here and there. He scrambled back to the bank and to his apprentice and medicine cat. " I'll inform Goldenfeather as soon as we get back to camp, don't want any cats falling into the mess of a riverbed over there" He mewled to the medicine cat to answer her question.

Whiskers drooping, Mothpaw eyed the mud bank uncertainly. Despite their efforts to comfort her, the young apprentice didn't believe Fernpool and Brackenfur. She was no mousebrain--this was clearly a problem. Their relaxing time was over. Sighing, she turned in the direction of camp and prepared to go, wondering if they would see other places where mudslides or rockslides had occured.

Fernpool followed Mothpaw out from under the rock and began to pad up the bank worriedly. She flicked her tail towards Brackenfur to indicate to the tom her worry and urged him closer so they could discuss it while Mothpaw padded on ahead. There were so many problems with these mudslides every Newleaf; the major one being food. What were they going to do this year in order to attain fish? All the prey was bound to move somewhere else and the clan would starve.
