Lightstep stepped out of the warriors den and yawned. With a quick stretch, she padded outside into the territory to wait for Hazelpaw. They were going to start training again today since his punishment time was up and he had been relatively good after his two mishaps. The first had been bad, but doing it again and getting himself and Mothpaw trapped?! Lightstep was still angry at her apprentice for that but decided the only way to use up some of that mischievous energy he had, was to train very hard so he was so tired he wouldn’t be able to walk after. Of course, she would help him back to the den though. Snickering to herself, Lightstep sat down in a clearing a ways off from the camp to wait. She wasn’t really going to overwork the apprentice but it was time to get serious.
Today they were going to practice stalking both mice and rabbits. The technique for each is different from because mice sense your pawstep vibrations through the ground before they smell you where a rabbit does the opposite. So in order to efficiently catch both, a cat needs to know both hunting techniques.
Curling her tail over her white tipped paws, she young she-cat waited in the sunny clearing just by the river that ran through Cascade Clan territory. She deliberately hadn’t told Hazelpaw where they were going to meet so that she could test his tracking skills. The kit would have to track her by scent all the way to the clearing which was on the other side of the territory from where they usually trained. Licking her paw, Lightstep settled herself down to wait.
