Dark green eyes flashed in the darkness. A Dark Brown tabby she-cat stepped quietly out of her moss bed, and tasted the herb tinted air. Dawnpaw looked out of the Medicine den. Still Nighttime... she thought. She stepped lightly over to the herbs, which were scattered all around the den, because of some little mischievous kits. A silver light flashed in the den. "What in the name of StarClan was that?" Dawnpaw mumbled. She carefully stepped over the the silver light, and there she saw a Silver feather, glistening in the fading moonlight. "A feather, that's what it was!? Dawnpaw hissed to herself. "Well, it Is Pretty...." she murmured. Dawnpaw picked up the feather in her jaws and padded over to her moss bed, and put the feather on it. "There we are." Dawnpaw then stepped outside of the den to watch the sun rise. O

Fernpool perked her ears as she heard a stirring noise in the den. Opening her bright, jade eyes Fernpool yawned and lifted her head. Looking around curiously she noticed that the herbs had been mangled and messed with most likely by some playful kits. Wondering how she could have missed that earlier, Fernpool stood and stretched before padding over to examine and check that none of the herbs were missing or had been accidentally ruined. It was a saftey hazard for all cats if the medicine cat's den was a mess for various reasons. As she passed Dawnpaw’s usual sleeping place, Fernpool noticed a gleaming silver feather that the apprentice had placed upon in. Smiling to herself, Fernpool spotted the cat just outside the den.
Continuing on her way to the herbs, Fernpool sat down in front of the shelf section and looked over everything taking into account anything that was missing. Everything seemed to be in place except… “The deathberries…” Fernpool breathed. “Dawnpaw!” she exclaimed loudly to the apprentice. Turning quickly in the way only a cat could, she sprinted out of the den and raced over to her apprentice. “Dawnpaw! Did you touch any of the deathberries?” she demanded. “There are three of them missing! If you didn’t move them then the kits might have eaten some! Tell me, did you touch them at all today?”
Worry and panic began to rise up in Fernpool. If there was even the slightest possibility that a kit might have eaten a deathberry, then every queen in the nursery would need to be awoken and the entire clan alerted to the missing berries. Which unfortunate queen would find her kit dead when she next awoke?

Dawnpaw yawned as she saw most of the warriors stepping out of their den. Dawnpaw flicked her right ear, and then padded into the Medicine den.
"Deathberries?" Dawnpaw meowed curiously. She thought back to yesterday....
~Dawnpaw was playing with the kits outside, noone had been in the Medicine den to be cured in at least two sunrises. One kit, had ran inside the Medicine den to Hide from Dawnpaw, and Dawnpaw chased after the She-kit. She had seen some red berries crushed on the ground, and she had seen the kit laying down in Dawnpaw's moss bed. She nudged the kit up out of the bed, and as the kit walked out, she had left red paw prints, Dawnpaw had ran out to get her, and cleaned off the Scarlet berries with some moss from her bedding.~
Dawnpaw shook her head gently, and answered,
"No, Fernpool..."
Dawnpaw continued to explain what happened to The Deathberries.....

Fernpool hissed as she rarely did. “Dawnpaw, did you not realize that they were deathberries? Which kit was it? We will need to alert the queens right now!” she exclaimed and stood. Flicking to Dawnpaw with her tail as a signal for the kit to follow, Fernpool trotted anxiously to the nursery and poked her nose inside waiting for Dawnpaw’s response before alerting anyone.

(( Not sure if we have any kits O.o))
Dawnpaw licked her chest fur in guilt, Alright, so she had made a mistake....
Nice job, Dawnpaw. She thought bitterly to herself. Dawnpaw padded next to he mentor, and sighed.
"It was Shadekit." she answered.
Dawnpaw shivered slightly, it was not like Fernpool to be aggravated like that. But all mentors have to 'let off steam' once and a while... Dawnpaw had known she had gotten all of the Deathberries off of Shadekit's paws..... Or did she..?

Fernpool looked at her apprentice somewhat alarmed by her lack of worry. Wasn’t the apprentice worried about little Shadekit? Shaking her head and deciding to deal with it later, she sighed. “Alright, well go get a few nettle seeds, just three small ones in case there has been some slight poisoning. And bring a yarrow leaf as well.” She told the apprentice before entering the quite nursery.
Shadekit’s mother, Gladepelt, was sleeping soundly in the back of the nursery with her three kits at her side in the mossy bed. Fernpool padded over on light paws and studied the three kits. Prodding Gladepelt with her paw lightly, Fernpool looked over the three tortoiseshell kittens. Gladepelt stirred and lifted her head wearily. “F-Fernpool? What’s wrong?” she asked sleepily.
“It’s Shadekit. I think he might have rolled or stepped in some deathberries earlier. Do you mind if I take a look?” Fernpool asked quietly. The queen’s eyes suddenly opened wide in shock and she scrambled to her feet anxiously.
“Go right ahead, Fernpool.” She said and nosed the smallest of the three kits in the direction of the medicine cat. Fernpool looked over the little kit and sniffed it carefully while she waited for Dawnpaw to return with the yarrow leaf and nettle seeds. The kit wasn’t moving and seemed stiff and cold. Fernpool’s heart skipped a beat and she immediately began to groom the kits fur the wrong way in order to get blood circulating. Deathberries where known to stop the circulation of blood and it was obvious this kit had ingested a small amount. How long ago and would it survive, Fernpool didn’t know. She only had once chance left.

Dawnpaw Ran swiftly to the Medicine den. Alright.. Nettle seeds, and a yarrow leaf. she thought. She picked up all of the Herbs, clamped in her jaws, and ran quickly towards the nursery. Her mind raced, She felt a pang of worry. She stepped inside the Milk-scented den,
"I got the herbs, Fernpool." she announced softly. She set them down next to her mentor, and waited to see what she should do next.

When Dawnpaw arrived with the herbs and placed them beside her, Fernpool quickly raised her head and scooped up the yarrow leaf. Cutting it in half she lifted the smaller of the two pieces and crushed it lightly between her paws. Normally warriors would have been able to chew the whole leaf but this kit was still fairly young and couldn’t handle the full dose or chew it well enough for the herb to work properly.
“Get me a few thyme leaves as well for Gladepelt, if you could please Dawnpaw.” She said as she worked. The queen was pacing anxiously around the nursery in obvious distress and was waking the other queens; a few kit squeals where heard as well.
Once the small half yarrow leaf was fully crushed, Fernpool forced it gently into Shadekit’s small mouth. The kit didn’t move for a few moments until it suddenly vomited a small glob that consisted mostly of milk and the tiniest chunk of scarlet – the deathberry. With a half sigh of relief, Fernpool knew her job wasn’t finished yet. Placing the smallest of the three nettle seeds in the kits mouth, she prompted it to swallow and waited.
A few moments later her efforts were rewards as the tiny kit let out a loud squeal. It began to cry for food as Gladepelt turned to Fernpool for a diagnostic. “He’ll be alright now,” the tortoiseshell she-cat assured gently. “I would like you to chew up a few thyme leaves in the mean time though. This put you in quite a shock so it would benefit everyone in the clan.” She continued firmly but not unkindly. “Shadekit will be very hungry now that he has thrown up everything he drank today and will be a bit weak for a few sunrises and sunsets and his immune system will be down. But, he’ll be alright if you keep an extra eye on him. A dose even that small,” she motioned a paw at the tiny scarlet glob in the middle of Shadekit’s vomit “of deathberry would have killed any cat especially one this young and small. We’re just lucky he was alright.” She finished smiling at Gladepelt.

Before Dawnpaw went to grab the thyme, she looked at the Small kit. Dawnpaw exhaled deeply from relief, the kit was alright...
Dawnpaw ran back to the medicine den, and stepped in. Okay, Thyme, Thyme. Thyme, Thyme.... There it is! She stepped over to the leaves and picked them up. She ran back over to the nursery and set the Thyme leaves down.
"Thank StarClan... Shadekit is Alright." she murmured.

When Dawnpaw once again returned, Fernpool smiled in thanks and prodded the thyme leaves towards Gladepelt. The queen ate them carefully and soon began to relax as the herb took effect. “Thank you, Fernpool.” Gladepelt said as she settled down again and nosed Shadekit towards her to nurse. “And you too Dawnpaw,” she added raising her head once more to smile. With a nod, Fernpool motioned to Dawnpaw to follow, and stepped out of the den.
Padding back to her own den, Fernpool entered and lay down in her bed crossing her paws as she turned towards Dawnpaw.

Dawnpaw lied down in her moss bed, lined with the feather.
"Uhm.." she coughed, clearing her throat. Dawnpaw thought of what to say next.
"Err, I promise that won't happen again, Fernpool." she meowed, drooping her head down. She put a paw print in the ground, it left a small mark, she wiped it off and waited for Fernpool's reply.

Fernpool studied her apprentice carefully and when she spoke it was in a clam, even voice. “Dawnpaw, I do hope you realize the severity of the situation. Shadekit could have died if we had waited any longer. It was just lucky that you found that feather and I checked the herbs otherwise if we had awoken at sunrise, Shadekit would have been dead and Gladepelt in hysterics.” The medicine cat continued to gaze at her sorrowful apprentice and sighed before standing and padding over. After licking the top of Dawnpaw’s head, she said “I know you didn’t mean it but for now, let’s make sure the kits stay away from the den and you keep a closer eye on those herbs.”
Standing and padding over to her bed once more, Fernpool lay back down and rested her head on her paws. Everything was well since there had been no deaths and Dawnpaw had learned the first lesson of being a medicine cat. Organization and watchfulness is key. As well as making sure you only bite off as much as you can chew; kits were a handful and, if you can’t watch them all, it’s best not to. Fernpool let her eyes close and hoped Dawnpaw would, in the future, be more careful
